Raw Word Records officially launched in 2005 with less of a bang than anticipated. Like most start up 'indie' record labels we had no funding, few resources and hungry artists just like ourselves that loved playing and would do it for free but needed something to live off of. Our first year was filled with emptiness. Empty pockets, empty hopes and our dreams had all but failed us. But there's something to be said about dedication, perseverance and compassion. Through the hot Texas summer we dj'ed sweaty house parties and sweltering parking lots destined to be shut down by the police until, come winter, we had something to show for and enough green to press some CDs. Three promising bands, a hand full of DJs, and a few emcees stepped up to the plate and were willing to take the same risks we took to be a part of something grand. At least that's what we continue to hope for.
Our vision is simple: to record, produce, engineer, promote and distribute music from artists we think have heart and who thrive on creative energy. Our vision continues: we intend to develop rich audio and visual content combining web design and street art, develop user friendly audio applications to help out those with red but no green and lastly to share with others everything we've accomplished in the hopes that our road traveled can be a guided and lighted path.
Easier said than done you might say but we do not think so. With dates already booked a year in advance we are taking major leaps and bounds. Our bands: Halo Rings Her Head, Talos IV and Aquaduct Pocket already play out almost as much as our DJs. With future plans to work exclusively with Central Texas' finest instrumental producers and composers and expanding our networking outside of Texas we're only going to grow and be a force to recon with.
Thanks to all who had faith and continue to rap, rock, thrash and dance out with us in the Capital of Texas. Big Up and much respect. It always comes back to you.
Yours Truly,
Orion Garcia -CEO and Founder of Raw Word Records
