In today’s rapidly growing electronic age it’s easy to get caught up in the fast and furious ‘production’ of the here and now. It used to take hours composing a beat with just one turntable, a stack of dusty records and an ASR-X pro (which I still have and use). There is something to be said about albums of the ‘back in the day’ that still hold that unique raw sound like 36 Chambers or even better No Need For Alarm (which now that I think about it, I’m going to play that Del album while I write this). Although there are still hundreds of thousands of producers that swear they’ll never go digital (and I understand why) I feel like I should just pass along some vitals that may persuade you otherwise. I know, anyone with a computer, some free ware and a sense of time can crank out beat after with no general gust or glamor. I know those guys too and it frustrates me just the same but i’ve be tinkering with sounds for a hot minute and maybe you can help out the situation with me.

Now this isn’t some ‘Ableton will change your world’ rant nor throw away your MPCs and buy a laptop post although seriously, if you haven’t plugged your MPC into Ableton and seen how much lighter midi files are on your hard ware, try it. Rather here are some places you might find very helpful in slowly transitioning over to the digital age. I will keep this as cheap as possible also.

Free VSTs

I found this at Am Vst . com. There are a bunch of other free VSTs for ya. Oh and speaking of free have you messed with livecut for your glitch?

It slowly became one of my favorites. You can download it at their site HERE.

Don’t know it you’re familiar with Super Collider but it’s a real time audio synthesis programming language, but there’s this community that creates free applications, instruments and VSTs off of said programming language as well as open source software such as ChucK and Pure Data.

One of my favs, and it’s visual as well is Aurora. version beta 0.1

You can download them all HERE.

This guy’s alright, it ain’t the shit cause the sound set is limited, but the Sonik Synth goes a long way for Free.
You can download that and others here at VSTPlanet.com.

And here’s a quick list of other site’s you can check out for some free VSTs
UV.es

That should do for now. I’ll revisit this later, VSTs that is. In part two I’m working on putting together a similar list but next time it’ll be free sample packs of useful and useless sounds. I have a bunch of personal sounds I want to share with you that I have to upload. Until then.
